MP3 baby scans for mums-to-be as The Portland Hospital launches new Wellbeing Centre

20 December 2007

The old fashioned baby scan print-out is a thing of the past, as The Portland Hospital offers a new service where mums-to-be can download a video of their unborn baby to their MP3 player. This innovative technology is being used as The Portland Hospital today opens its new Maternal and Fetal Wellbeing Centre. The technology allows women to visit in their lunch hour and later relive the moment of seeing their baby with colleagues, partners and family members.

Loved ones around the world could also benefit as scans could even be sent to mobile phones or computers.

The new Maternal and Fetal Wellbeing Centre is a one-stop shop for mums-to-be where they will find the widest breadth of maternal and fetal medicines services available in the UK all under the same roof.   As well as the 4D scans, women will benefit from the comfort and safety of state- of-the-art surroundings to receive fetal medicine care, complementary therapies, antenatal classes and midwife care all in the same brand new facility. In addition, women can choose to have consultant led care throughout their pregnancy.

Mr Pranav Pandya, Co-director of the Wellbeing Centre, said: “The Portland’s new centre offers everything an expectant mother might need under one roof. The clinicians and experts are highly specialised and are committed to delivering the very best, fast-access obstetric and fetal care for women. Women don’t have to see their whole pregnancy through with us; there are many individual services the centre offers such as active birth classes, second opinion consultations and complementary therapies. Mums-to-be can now get 4D scans on their MP3 player – the ideal Christmas present.”
