Biography

Alex Barnacle gained her medical degree at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1993. Post graduation, she trained in general paediatrics and did a six month post in paediatric surgery. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (Paediatrics) in 1998. She trained in Radiology at Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals in London and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2003. She completed specialist fellowships in paediatric radiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

She was appointed as a full time consultant in paediatric interventional radiology (IR) at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2006. She works as one of a team of five consultants in one of the leading paediatric IR departments in the world, offering emergency and planned treatment for children with a very wide variety of conditions. She is the lead radiologist for the vascular anomalies service at GOSH. Her other specialist interests include the management of paediatric renal stones, thrombolysis and musculoskeletal interventions in children.

She offers a specialist vascular anomalies service at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children in London, with outpatient consultations, specialist ultrasound and MRI imaging and regular operating lists for a number of vascular anomalies treatments such as sclerotherapy.
