Dr Zhang has a dual accreditation in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is also a RCOG (Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist) certifed subspecialist in Fetal and Maternal Medicine. Her NHS consultant appointment is at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St. Mary's Hospital and Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital, two leading teaching hospitals in UK where high risk pregnancies are treated).
In 2001, she was awarded the PhD from University of Cambridge in recognition of research achievements on Angiogenesis in human placentation. Angiogenesis has been associated with growth restriction (IUGR), pre-eclampsia, stillbirth, heavy periods and cancer. The finding from her research study has contributed to a global effort in understanding mechanism of blood vessel growth in human endometrium and placental development at both molecular and genetic levels, which in turn lay the foundation for development of new cancer prevention drugs by inhibition of targeted blood vessel growth.
