Helen graduated from King’s College, Cambridge University, with double honours in Medicine and Experimental Psychology, before completing her clinic training at the Royal Free & University College London Medical School. She trained in Paediatrics in London, and was then awarded one of the few recognised Higher Specialist Training posts in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology, as the MADEL Clinical Lecturer. She trained in some of the UK’s leading teaching hospitals: Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. During her training, Helen completed an MSc in Allergy, gaining a distinction at the University of Southampton. She was subsequently awarded a PhD in determining routes of developing peanut allergy, at King's College London University.

Helen is now a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy, and is the Clinical Lead for one of the largest Children’s Allergy service in Europe, at St. Thomas’ Hospital. In her NHS service Helen runs joint specialist Allergy / Gastroenterology clinics with Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologists, and joint specialist Allergy / Respiratory clinics, with Consultant Respiratory Paediatricians. She has also set up community Children’s Allergy services, and an Adolescent Allergy service for teenagers, to empower them to better manage their allergies.  She was awarded 'Health Professional of the Year' runner up in 2010 by Coeliac UK.

Helen's clinical and research interests are in food allergy prevention, diagnosis and management, immunotherapy, asthma, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders and eczema. She is leading the Pronuts study; this study is evaluating if in children with at least one nut allergy, the introduction of other nuts into the diet, can prevent the development of new nut allergies. Helen was also involved in the LEAP (Learning Early About Peanut) study, which showed that in young children with eczema, or an egg allergy, early introduction of peanut into the diet prevented the development of peanut allergy.

Helen has published a textbook on Paediatrics (Rapid Paediatrics and Child Health). She has published original research on the way children become allergic to peanut and new biomarkers for peanut allergy. She was awarded the BSACI Barry Kay Award, for research in Paediatric Allergy, in 2013. Helen has written reviews on active management and prevention of food allergies, the use of antihistamines in children, and dietary management of peanut allergy. She chairs the atopic eczema guideline group for the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Standards of Care Committee.

Helen regularly presents research, and the latest developments in allergy, at national and international seminars and conventions. An honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, she teaches on both the Paediatric MSc and Immunology MSc course, the Allergy Academy and the Centre of Excellence course for international fellows. Helen set up an educational programme for primary care as part of the community based Children’s Allergy services and organises the Annual Meeting for the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
