Consultant-Led Care
Why choose Consultant-led care?
Leading, international Consultant Obstetricians work together with The Portland Hospital to provide patients with the highest standard of maternity care. All Consultant Obstetricians are able to provide general obstetric care, including normal deliveries, Caesarean sections and induction of labour.
A Consultant Obstetrician will undertake and advise on all of your antenatal care. They will also arrange your booking with the hospital for the delivery of your baby. Many of the Consultant Obstetricians hold their antenatal consultation appointments in the hospital's Outpatients Department. Patients of Consultant Obstetricians who are based at the hospital benefit from other facilities, such as antenatal classes, ultrasound scans and fetal medicine tests, being available on site.
Consultant Obstetricians are independent practitioners and, as such, they undergo a rigorous process to gain admitting privileges to the hospital. This involves evaluating their background, experience and qualifications and ensuring they maintain their high standard of practice. Prospective patients who are not familiar with the UK system for Consultant titles should note that those with titles Mr, Mrs and Miss are all Consultant Surgeons. Our Consultant Physicians hold the title Dr.
Our Consultant directory is able to provide further information on individual doctors to assist in making an informed decision of an appropriate Obstetrician for maternity care. The hospital is unable to specifically recommend any individual doctor.
When booking under the care of a Consultant Obstetrician, fees are payable directly to the obstetrician in addition to the hospital fees for the birth and postnatal care provided. Further details of the hospital charges are available in our Maternity Prices 2008 brochure.
