The Portland hospital

Nurse Led Clinic

The Portland Hospital is London’s only private Hospital dedicated entirely to the care of Women & Children.

With world renowned leading clinicians and state of the art facilities The Portland Hospital provides the very best in the treatment of Women’s Health needs, spanning a wide range of services including; Maternity, Early Pregnancy, Gynaecology, Sexual Health, Breast Care & Complementary Therapies all supported by appropriate diagnostic Health Screening as required.

The latest addition to The Portland Hospital’s extensive Women’s Health Services is The Nurse Led Smear Clinic. This service will be available from 1st December 2009. Women will be able to self-refer or be referred via their GP for a smear test. The clinic will be held at the outpatient facilities at 212 Great Portland Street, and will run twice weekly from 08.00am - 8.00pm.

The Department of Health recommends that women between the ages of 25-64 years have routine cervical smears every three to five years as part of the NHS Screening Programme (Department of Health Cervical Screening Programme Guidelines 2006).

Recent press coverage highlights that many women under the age of 25 would like to have regular cervical screening & not be restricted to 3-5 yearly smears depending on age. Cervical Screening has proved to be extremely effective in the early detection of abnormalities and if treated promptly prognosis is good.

The Portland Hospital Nurse Led clinic will be headed by Gynaecology Outpatient Sister, Anna Barbour.
