The Portland Hospital’s ‘Children’s Doc Around the Clock’ is an urgent medical appointment service for babies and children up to the age of 16. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Children will be seen at The Portland Hospital by a Consultant Paediatrician between the hours of 9am to 8pm Monday – Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays.
Outside of these hours parents will have the option of either a home visit or a telephone consultation with a child-friendly GP from Doctorcall . If your child then needs admitting to The Portland Hospital this will be arranged by our covering Consultant Paediatrician at any time of the day or night.

- Dehydration
- Troublesome cough
- Wheezing and breathlessness
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Earache
- Feeding Difficulties
- Unsettled baby
- Acute allergies
- Constipation
WE ARE UNABLE TO HELP WITH…
- Serious medical emergencies posing an immediate threat to a child’s health or life
- Head injuries
- Accidental ingestion
- Severe allergic reactions
- Severe blood loss
- Suspected fractures/breaks
- Lacerations
- Burns
In these instances we would advise parents to visit their local accident and emergency department or in an emergency dial 999.
FEES:
As this is an urgent appointment service it is self-pay and we collect a consultation fee upfront. In most instances it is possible to claim this on medical insurance and we are able to provide a receipt to support claims. We do advise you to check with your medical insurance provider for further information about what is covered under your policy.
The fees for an appointment are as follows:
- Urgent appointment with a Consultant Paediatrician: £250
- Home visits with child friendly GP: £220 between 7am and 6pm; £230 between 6pm and 10pm; £260 between 10pm and 7am
- Telephone consultations with child-friendly GP: £70 between 7am and 10pm; £95 between 10pm and 7am
Other charges may apply. Self-pay prices e.g. blood and diagnostic tests are available on request.
