Physiotherapy

Overview

The aim of physiotherapy is to:

  • To maximise each child's functional independence
  • To facilitate optimal development in all areas
  • To increase or maintain the range of joints movements as appropriate
  • To increase or maintain muscle strength and flexibility as appropriate
  • To help each child to return to their pre-operative level of function or greater in cases of surgery

What happens in Physiotherapy?

Initial contact includes a detailed assessment/treatment session during which the therapist, child, family and relevant carers are able to establish mutual and achievable goals of treatment. We also use this time to agree upon a suitable physiotherapy regime, setting up subsequent physiotherapy sessions and providing ongoing advice.

We liaise closely with the multidisciplinary team of health professionals to implement and integrate the child’s therapy into their daily routine.

On discharge from our therapy service, each child is provided with a tailor made treatment package, so that they may continue their therapy progress.
