WELLBEING OF WOMEN & MEDICAL AID FILMS

At The Portland Hospital we are able to provide our expectant and new mothers with the best in maternity care to ensure that their needs are met and their experience is a happy and exciting one. We are however very aware that not all women are able to get the level of care that they deserve to have a healthy pregnancy and birth.

We are therefore delighted to be working in partnership with two leading women's health charities: Wellbeing of Women and Medical Aid Films. These charities fund training, education and research into all areas of women's health both in the UK and the developing world.

Every penny that you donate will go directly to the charities, so you can be assured that your donation really will make a difference to help empower and educate women worldwide.

£20 can make a difference to a woman you know by paying for one hour of vital research to find better treatments.

£100 can allow training films and animations to be seen in the most remote areas by providing a robust, portable DVD player.

£1,000 could mean a successful pregnancy for childless couples by providing equipment needed for analysis of DNA samples, to help women who've experienced recurrent miscarriage.

£10,000 can make one training animation that can be seen by thousands of front line health workers and women all over the world.

£20,000 will fund a research scholarship for a young doctor or midwife.

Wellbeing of Women

We are a charity dedicated to improving the health of women and babies, to make a difference to everybody's lives today and tomorrow.

We provide information, to raise awareness of health issues to keep women and babies well today.

We fund medical research & training grants, which have and will continue to develop better treatments and outcomes for tomorrow.

We still don't know why some babies are stillborn

In the UK every year 30,000 babies are born prematurely

Around 250,000 UK pregnancies end in miscarriage

"The benefits of the research we have funded over the last 50 years have ensured many more women are able to have healthy babies. Every pound donated makes a difference to solving the problems that still affect around 20% of pregnancies today."

Medical Aid Films

Medical Aid Films is a charity that seeks to improve the health of mothers and children in the developing world by providing education and training through the use of films.

We produce culturally sensitive and medically accurate films and animations

We partner with local organisations to train and educate frontline health workers

We evaluate and monitor the films' impact

Globally 1,000 women die due to pregnancy and childbirth every day

Across the world 4 million newborns do not reach their 28th day every year

99% of these deaths occur in developing countries and most can be prevented by training health workers with a range of simple techniques

"Women and infants living in the developing world continue to die from preventable and manageable complications. We know our films work. With your help we can produce more, providing health workers with new skills and saving lives."
