Phil & Teds baby nest
This is a bag, but in the bottom is a travel cot that pops up like a tent. It’s suitable until they can roll over, at about six or seven months. I thought it was just brilliant, especially if you’re on the go. The Moses basket is a great big piece of kit and you don’t always want to lug a travel cot around. This is so handy – you just stick all your stuff in and off you go. It couldn’t be easier and all the Phil & Teds products are excellent quality. £86 philandteds.com
Miracle blanket swaddle
These are really amazing. Most babies love to be swaddled but they often wriggle loose and stick out an arm – especially at three or four weeks old when they get stronger – and it can wake them up. This swaddle has a clever selection of flaps – you can really tuck your baby in. No zips, no Velcro, nothing complicated. It’s like a little strait jacket. They love it. £15 Boots or Amazon
Baby Bjorn Miracle baby carrier
I used these for all of my children. They’re great for fathers too, to have that closeness the mother has had through pregnancy. Critics say certain carriers are not good for mothers’ backs – especially when the baby gets bigger - but the Miracle is great. They just love the heartbeat, the closeness and facing out to the world and you don’t always want to take a cumbersome buggy out with you. from £114.99
Bootcamp For Tummies
This is a fantastic combination of creams and exercises that gets rid of floppiness. The exercises – called the Tupler Technique – are really effective and create not only a flat tummy but also strengthen core muscles, which is really important for protecting the lower back. So many new mothers don’t have time to go to the gym every day and you can do these in the car or even in bed.

Merino wool sleeping bag
Merino is a lovely, intelligent fabric that you can use all year round whether it’s hot or cold. It keeps your child at the optimum temperature meaning you don’t need to faff around with different togs. It’s a brilliant way of keeping kit to a minimum and if you follow washing instructions they will last for years.
