Susan McDevitt suffered from serious breathing problems for 27 years but thanks to Dr Fayad ground-breaking Breathe Implant surgery she can now breathe again.

Susan McDevitt is in her fifties, and has had problems breathing since the birth of her second child in 1983. For several years, the problems were intermittent, and Susan tried numerous over-the-counter remedies to solve the problem.
However, by 1998, the problem was permanent, and Susan underwent a rhinoplasty to cut away cartilage in her nose to aid her breathing. But within a month the situation had reverted. A second rhinoplasty in 2005 had the same effect.
At night, Susan was unable to sleep and would wake up frequently, fearing that she was suffocating. During the day the problem was equally bad, and any exertion caused Susan to feel that someone was holding her nose, preventing her from breathing at all.
Susan’s ENT surgeon, Mr George Fayad at The Portland Hospital and Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital, who is at the forefront of ENT surgery, is the first in the UK to have mastered the Breathe-Implant surgery.
He recommended a titanium nasal implant “Mr Fayad first suggested nasal strips, as I had very narrow nasal passages and I always used to try to hold my nostrils open to aid my breathing. The nasal strips made a huge difference at night but I still had the problem during the day. The titanium implant, however, was able to solve the problem completely.”
Susan underwent surgery earlier this year to aid her breathing difficulties and her quality of life has ‘improved immensely’. The implant should last a patient for life. Susan is able to sleep at night, and even go to they gym during the day with no problems at all. Susan stated that the surgery was very unproblematic – I suffered no pain at all and I was in the supermarket, shopping, the next day.
Mr Fayad operates on both children and adults at The Portland Hospital. For further information or to arrange a private ENT appointment please contact Mr George Fayad on 07795 563 535.
