Amabile's Experience at The Portland Hospital
It isn't often I feel compelled to write a review, or to send a note of thanks to a hospital, but a recent experience at the Portland Hospital made me think I had express my gratitude in writing.
I've always been healthy, so I've never really had to consider the prospect of being hospitalised for any length of time. So when I started to suffer from crippling stomach pains, I was both surprised and very scared. And although I tried to ignore the problem in the hope that it would simply go away, I eventually decided to confide in a friend.
My friend listened to me intently as I described my symptoms, before telling me her own story about her experiences at the Portland Hospital. She told me that this respected institution was famous for delivering world-class care for women and children, and that the doctors there are experienced in dealing with symptoms just like mine.
After doing some of my own research on their website, I booked an initial appointment with one of the specialists at The Portland Hospital. Having waited for doctor's appointments before, I was expecting to be placed on a waiting list for several weeks. So I was somewhat surprised when I was given an appointment later that week!
I am very nervous around doctors and specialists of any kind, but from the moment I walked into The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, I knew that all my fears and concerns had been unnecessary. I was greeted with a warm smile by a very helpful receptionist, who then took my details and pointed me in the right direction.
The medical team was just as helpful throughout my visit. During what was a thorough examination, I was told exactly what was happening at every stage. I had plenty of questions of my own, which the doctor answered fully. My doctor was called Mr Ian Currie - although he was actually an experienced consultant gynaecologist. It was reassuring to know that I was in the best of hands from my very first visit.
One of the things that impressed me the most during my time at The Portland Hospital was how clean and modern it was. The floors, walls and equipment were all spotless, and although I'm no expert, very modern-looking machines and monitoring equipment were in use everywhere.
I had been worried that finding a doctor (and a hospital) I could trust to treat my stomach and pelvic problems was going to be an almost impossible task, but my doctor couldn't have been more attentive and sensitive. Mr Currie could see I was nervous, but he put me at ease and made me relax. What surprised me most was his understanding of my obvious suffering. He knew exactly what he was doing from the moment I entered the assessment room, and it wasn't long before he had a few theories about what was causing the pain and discomfort in my pelvic area.
I'd recommend The Portland Hospital to any young woman or mother, as my experience there was as comfortable as it possibly could have been. Not only is it modern, well-equipped and comfortable, it has some of the most caring, professional medical staff I've ever met - and I'd like to say a big thank you to each and every one of them.
